RH Excellence supports Pink October
RH Excellence supports Pink October
Every year, 58,000 women in France are affected by breast cancer, making it the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. To support this cause, Pink October is much more than just an awareness-raising campaign; it's a real call to action to support research, encourage early detection and support people undergoing treatment. Thanks to advances in research, many cases can now be prevented or better managed.
At RH Excellence, we firmly believe that companies have a role to play in this mobilisation. That's why we're proud to be taking an active part in Pink October, offering practical solutions to help women affected by this disease. Whether through internal initiatives or direct support, we are here to make a difference. Thanks to the personal involvement of our founder, Élise, a certified hair prosthetist, who shares her experience and commitment, we are doing everything we can to support people undergoing treatment by offering them high-quality wigs and services, bringing them real comfort.
WHAT IS THE PINK OCTOBER ? BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
Pink October is an annual campaign running throughout October, dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer. Launched in 1985 in the United States, the initiative aims to inform the general public about the importance of early detection and to raise funds for research. Over the years, Pink October has become a worldwide movement, supported by thousands of associations, organisations and companies.
In France, the event is taking on particular significance, as breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. It represents a major public health issue. Prevention plays an essential role in this fight, as screening as early as possible can considerably improve the chances of recovery. Advances in medical research mean that we can now better understand and treat this disease, saving many lives in the process.
Who invented Pink October?
Pink October was first launched in 1985 by the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries, now known as AstraZeneca. Their initial aim was to promote breast cancer screening and to make women aware of the importance of doing this to save lives.
Who created the pink ribbon?
A few years later, in 1992, Evelyn Lauder, vice-president of Estée Lauder, in collaboration with Self magazine, created the Pink Ribbon association to represent women's fight against breast cancer. The company then popularised the pink ribbon during a distribution campaign in New York in its own boutiques.
Evelyn Lauder is particularly committed to the fight against breast cancer, having survived the disease herself. In 2004, the Pink Ribbon Award was created to fund breast cancer research. In fifteen years, over €3 million has been donated to breast cancer research. Today, the pink ribbon is worn by millions of people around the world, symbolising hope and solidarity.
RH EXCELLENCE'S COMMITMENT : PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT
What is the message for Pink October?
For many companies, like RH Excellence, getting involved in the fight against breast cancer is a way of showing their commitment to a cause that is close to our hearts. We make it a point of honour to raise awareness of early detection, a key element in the fight against this disease. From the age of 35, it's essential for every woman to feel her breasts and monitor her health regularly. We want to remind people that prevention saves lives, by encouraging women to have regular check-ups to detect the disease at an early stage, when the chances of recovery are greatest.
