How do I take care of my hair extensions ?
Hair extensions are the alternative when you want to add volume and length to your hair without having to look for miracle solutions to grow your hair. But beware ! Having extensions requires special care and maintenance in order to keep them as long as possible. It would be a shame to ruin the result ... The extensions are made of 100% natural hair. You must therefore take care of them like your own hair and respect certain additional rules that we will suggest in the following article.
Washing my hair extensions :
As with your natural hair, extensions need to be washed regularly (at least once a week and avoid washing them every day). Never wash your hair upside down as this can cause tangles. Washing should be gentle, to avoid tangling your hair as much as possible, and should be done from top to bottom.
Before washing, it is advisable to brush your hair.
For products, it is important to use shampoos without silicone (silicone could make your extensions slip). For more safety, we invite you to use products specially designed for hair extensions. On our website, you can find the complete hair extension maintenance kit from Balmain Hair.
It is important to use a conditioner or mask (also silicone free) on your hair after each shampoo. In addition to nourishing your hair, it will make brushing easier without pulling on your extensions.
Drying my hair extensions :
Very important : NEVER BRUSH THE EXTENSIONS UNTIL YOUR HAIR IS DRY !
You need to towel dry your hair first. Then use a hair dryer with your head up (minimum 15cm from your scalp and the attachment points of the extensions). Finally, once your hair is dry, you can then proceed to brush it.
Brushing my hair extensions :
Hair extensions require a minimum of two brushings per day. Ideally, we advise you to use special extension brushes or boar's hair brushes.
How to proceed ? You should keep your extensions at mid-length and start brushing at the tips. Then, go up little by little until you reach the attachment points. You don't need to brush over the attachment points.
You should brush gently. Furthermore, you should not pull if you feel resistance. This could pull out your extensions or even your roots if the extension resists.
Last point : Avoid scratching too hard at your roots, at the risk of breaking your hair or damaging your extensions.
Styling my hair extensions :
When styling your extensions, we suggest that you use a straightening or curling iron rather than a hair dryer to blow dry your hair. Indeed, blow-drying pulls on the hair and therefore on the extensions, which could lead to the fall of your extensions.
As always, continue to use a leave-in serum to nourish your hair before using heated equipment.
How do I sleep with my hair extensions ?
Before going to sleep, you should brush your hair to avoid any risk of tangling during the night. It is also highly recommended to tie your hair up (ponytail, braid, ...). Finally, never go to bed with wet extensions. Indeed, this is the best way to find yourself with knots in your hair the next morning ...
Hobbies and my extensions :
If you are involved in sports, we recommend tying your hair up to prevent the extensions from tangling. Also, when you go to the sea or swimming pool, apply a hair serum or sun oil as your hair will be dry otherwise.
